Fair Trade WebsitesA few fair trade organizations...As a result of the Social Justice work of issues
surrounding the Fair Trade movement, the Social Justice Committee is making
available this partial list of potentially useful websites devoted to issues and
commerce associated with Fair Trade. Saltwater UU Church and the Social Justice
Committee do not promote trade with any of these organizations. These websites
are provided for your information only.
TransFair USA
is the only non-profit certification organization for Fair Trade products in the
US. We have a two-fold mission: 1) to increase the availability of Fair Trade
Certified products throughout the country by creating partnerships with
industry, and 2) to increase consumer awareness about the importance of Fair
Trade, thereby building consumer demand for Fair Trade Certified products. TRANSFAIR
(Canada) is Canada's only independent certification organization for fair trade
coffee, tea, cocoa and sugar. The FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED logo is an independent
certification that adheres to monitoring criteria and standards set out by the
FAIRTRADE LABELING ORGANIZATIONS INTERNATIONAL (FLO).
The
Fair Trade Federation
(FTF) is an association of fair trade wholesalers, retailers, and producers
whose members are committed to providing fair wages and good employment
opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide. The Fairtrade
Foundation exists to ensure a better deal for marginalized and
disadvantaged third world producers. Set up by CAFOD, Christian Aid, New
Consumer, Oxfam, Traidcraft and the World Development Movement, the Foundation
awards a consumer label, the FAIRTRADE Mark, to products which meet
internationally recognized standards of fair trade. The founding organizations
were later joined by Britain's largest women's organization, the Women's
Institute. Fairtrade makes a real difference to people's lives. Fairtrade Labeling
Organizations International (FLO)
Fairtrade labeling aims to
support marginalized producers on the road towards sustainable development. The
label identifies the Fairtrade product so consumers buy it, thereby enabling
Fairtrade producers to access international markets on fair terms. The
European Fair Trade Association (EFTA)
is a network of 12 Fair Trade organizations in
nine European countries which import Fair Trade products from some 575
economically disadvantaged producer groups in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
EFTA's members are based in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the
Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The
Fair Trade Resource Network
raises consumer awareness about improving people's
lives through Fair Trade alternatives. IFAT the global network for Fair Trade.
IFAT is the International Federation for Alternative Trade, a global network of
over 160 Fair Trade organizations in more than 50 countries, which works to
improve the livelihoods and well-being of disadvantaged people in developing
countries and to change the unfair structures of international trade.
